Kriish Tyagi’s dream run ends in semis after stunning upset

Bengaluru, May 15 (UNI) Bengaluru’s teenage wild card Kriish Tyagi enjoyed a dream debut run at the Karnataka Open ATP Challenger before the fairytale was halted in the semifinals at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium here on Friday.
The 19-year-old, who had grabbed headlines with a stunning upset over World No. 328 and second seed Hamish Stewart in the quarterfinals, bowed out after a 0-6, 2-6 defeat to Australia’s fourth seed Philip Sekulic.
Despite the straight-sets loss, Tyagi’s campaign emerged as one of the standout stories of the tournament, with the local youngster capturing home spectators' attention through fearless tennis and a breakthrough win that briefly lit up Bengaluru’s Challenger stage.
