Kolhapur: 100 villagers injured in bee attack, 12 serious

Kolhapur, Apr 15 (UNI) More than 100 villagers were injured, 12 of them seriously, when they were attacked by a swarm of bees as they were gathered for the last rites of a fellow villager, at Yelavade village in Radhanagari tehsil of this district.
According to Radhanagari tehsil police, more than 100 villagers, including relatives of the dead person, were gathered at the cremation ground for the last rites, and were waiting for a crow for the 'Raksha Visarjan' ritual.
At that moment, a crow hit a honeycomb, which was on a tree there. The irate bees attacked the gathered people, who tried to run from the spot.

Satara, Sep 5 (UNI) Koyna irrigation dam, one of the largest dams in Maharashtra situated in Koyananagar of Satara district, was filled to capacity on Saturday with the two curved gates of Koyna Dam opened by one foot and 3,182 cusecs of discharge released into the Koyna river.
One unit of Koyna Dam Piththa Power House is operational and 1,050 cusecs of discharge is being made through it. A total of 4,232 cusecs of discharge will be made in Koyna River, officials said in the evening.

Kolhapur, Sep 5 (UNI) Farmers from the Maharashtra-Karnataka disputed area have announced an indefinite sit-in protest outside union Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Pralhad Joshi's residence in Hubli (Karnataka) from September 29 to demand minimum support price of sugar at Rs 50 per kg and Rs 70 per litre for ethanol.
In a press release circulated here, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) national president Raju Shetty announced this decision at a meeting held at Gurlapur in Belgaum district today.
