Maharashtra Cabinet’s Recruitment Decision Sparks Controversy

Mumbai, May 15 (UNI) The Maharashtra cabinet’s recent decision regarding government recruitment has triggered sharp criticism from senior lawyer Gunaratna Sadavarte, who alleged that the move is illegal and contrary to the state’s own policies.
Under the new decision, candidates from reserved categories who avail benefits such as age relaxation, educational qualification relaxation, or concession in examination fees during competitive exams, will no longer be eligible to claim selection under the open category. Their appointments will be restricted only to seats reserved for their respective categories.
Adv. Sadavarte said the government had acted against its own established policy framework. He argued that communities such as OBCs, Nomadic Tribes, Vimukta Jatis, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes often migrate from one village to another for work, causing breaks in children’s education and affecting their learning opportunities.
