Meghalaya BJP files FIR over desecration of Jesus Christ statue

Tura, April 14 (UNI) Meghalaya BJP Vice President Bernard Marak filed an FIR on Tuesday over the desecration of a statue of Jesus Christ at Chibinang market in West Garo Hills.
In a complaint lodged with the district police chief of West Garo Hills, Abraham Sangma, Marak who is also a member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), alleged that a statue of Lord Jesus Christ was vandalised by a mob."
“A mob, allegedly consisting largely of illegal migrants, assembled unlawfully and engaged in acts of violence in Chibinang area on March 9, 2026 which was reportedly instigated and provoked by former MLA and MDC, Esmatur Mominin,” Marak stated in the FIR.

Ganga crosses extreme danger level, nearly one lakh stranded in Bhutni Diara

Siliguri, Sep 5 (UNI) The Ganga crossed the extreme danger level at Manikchak in Malda on Saturday, further worsening the flood situation in the vast Bhutni Diara area, where nearly one lakh people are stranded by floodwaters.
At around 5 pm, the Ganga was flowing about seven centimetres above the extreme danger level at Manikchak. Several areas of Bhutni Diara, including Kesharpur, Pulintola, Kalutola and Basantatola, have been inundated. Many affected families have taken shelter on the existing embankment, a portion of which has already been washed away.
