Bharti Singh shares her journey on celebrity chat show Double Date

Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) Famous comedian Bharti Singh recently spoke openly about her experiences of body shaming on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi's show "Double Date".
In this honest and emotional conversation, Singh revealed that in the environment she grew up in, body shaming was considered very normal.
Recalling her childhood, Singh said that in her town, if someone was overweight, people would openly call them "fat," and if someone was dark-skinned, they would call them "black," without considering the emotional impact these words might have. She also shared that her mother would often jokingly say, "Stop it, how much will you eat? You'll get fat."
The 41-year-old comedian said that for a long time, she didn't understand how deeply such comments could affect a person's confidence and self-esteem. After entering the entertainment industry and becoming known for her comic timing, she realised that jokes about body image are often used to make people laugh. But with time and understanding, she decided that she didn't want to use such words to mock others.
Bharti Singh explained that this thought completely changed her perspective. Instead of poking fun at others' looks, she started making light-hearted jokes about herself, so as not to hurt anyone's feelings with her comedy. Her honesty touched many viewers, especially at a time when conversations about body positivity and self-acceptance are growing in society.
